Review: Hot Octopuss Pulse II Solo

The folks over at Hot Octopuss recently asked me if I wanted to review the latest incarnation of their Pulse vibe, the appropriately named “Pulse II“. I agreed of course, as I wanted to see if they had made clear improvements or had just tinkered for some more publicity. I remember Rocks Off making changes to their Rude Boy vibe a few years ago, which desperately needed altering, but they only packaged it with a more powerful vibe. Better vibrations are always welcome, but the Rude Boy needed a shape change more than anything. The Pulse is a bit different from the Rude Boy though, as I really liked it. So I was a little nervous that they’d have tinkered with it too much and spoiled it in some way.

So what has actually changed? Well, if you don’t own one you’ll be pleased to know that it’s essentially the same toy. The Pulse was already a good design, so I’m glad they’ve not ruined it. What they have actually done is make an already good toy a little bit better. For a start, they’ve now made two versions. There’s a Solo, like the one I have, and a Duo, which has an additional motor on the back, designed for stimulating your partner. The Duo also comes with a remote, which would make a big difference as the original Pulse was impossible to control between two bodies. I won’t dwell on the Duo though, as it’s the Solo I have. The main differences to the Solo? Vibe patterns and it’s waterproof. Waterproofing, for me, is always a good addition for a toy. In my mind, all sex toys should be. I mean, think about where they’re used. I’m not talking about hitting the shower with them, although that’s a lot of fun. Sex toys will always become soaked. If they’re not being ejaculated on, they enter areas not known for their dryness. But that aside, you can now take your Pulse II into the shower with you, which is a lot of fun. I probably use toys in the shower more than anywhere else. I love the feeling of hot water rushing over my body and it’s the perfect place to clean them afterwards. True, I’ve always been more of a dildo user in my wet room than anything else, but it’s still great to be able to use a masturbator like this and not have to spend too much time cleaning up afterwards.

In what was a surprise for me too, the vibe patterns are actually pretty good as well. I was expecting to say what I, until now, always used to say about patterns. They’re ok if patterns are your thing, but they’re not for me. With the Pulse II, I actually quite liked them. I liked how they were mostly on/off, as opposed to the slow building crescendos that tend to be present on most toys. Indeed, I’ve found myself using it with patterns more than with the constant vibrations, which is a first for any toy I’ve ever owned.

Other than the patterns and the water resistance, the Pulse II solo isn’t that different. It’s a little longer, as you can see from the photo below. It’s also more of a dark grey colour, other than black. But it still feels like essentially the same decent penis vibrator. It could just be mine, but the vibrations seem a tiny bit quieter on the new one. You’d only notice if you used both side by side though, like I did. Because of the added button, it’s still just as easy to control, too. You have on/off and pattern changing with the button on the left and intensity on the right.

Personally, I love the highest settings, but they work very quickly! Maybe my penis responds faster to vibrations than most, but I found this to be a quicker way of reaching orgasm than with my hand. The intense vibrations focussed on the sweet spot on my frenulum (on the underside of my penis) does it for me every time. It’s like pressing an orgasm button. Of course, vibrations are nice all over the penis, but that’s the most effective place for them, for sure. It’s like when you slide a toy inside anally and it presses nicely on your prostate. Sure, most anal toys are fun, but applying pressure or vibrations in the right place makes a real difference.

So, it’s a good toy. A very good toy. The question now is: Is it worth buying? Now, if I’m completely honest, if you have the original Pulse, it’s an expensive upgrade. If you want to use it in the shower then it’s possibly worth it, but I doubt the vibration patterns on their own are worth it. If you don’t have one though, then I’d highly recommend it. The original was good and this one’s even better. It’s also the cheapest, deliberate frenulum vibrator. So if you’ve never experienced this kind of masturbator, this is where you should start. If you like it, you still may never need to upgrade.

They’re available here for the same original price of £69.99, from Hot Octopuss. Enjoy!
