Review: Nalone Pulse for Lovehoney

This review is a little bit late. I had hoped to be one of the first to review one of these things, but I received it the same time I received the keys to my new house and, well, I’ve been a bit busy. But it’s still relatively new, so if you haven’t heard of it yet, let me tell you about it.

The Nalone Pulse is a new vibrator that I was lucky enough to receive from Cazz at Lovehoney in return for an honest review.

Nalone-7

The first thing I should point out, is that this is designed to be a vaginal toy. It’s not meant to be used anally. There’s no flare present to prevent the toy being sucked up inside you so I would never recommend you use it this way.  Now personally, I know my own body and have a lot more control of my anal muscles than I used to. The Nalone Pulse also has a wide control unit on the end. These things, coupled with the fact that I had a firm grip on it with my hand, meant I was confident to use it anally.  To put it in perspective, the base on this toy is far, far wider than the flare on the Lelo Billy.  Not that I wouldn’t recommend using the Billy anally, but with each toy you have to make a judgement call as to whether it’s safe, or not, to insert.  With this one, I made a call and am happy with it, but don’t buy this if you specifically want an anal vibrator.

OK, so with lots of perfectly good anal vibrators out there, why did I bother with this one? Well, I couldn’t resist the noise sensor in the base.  Had Nalone released an anal version, I would have been first in the queue but, as it stands, there is no such thing.  So what’s this noise sensor then, eh? I’m glad you asked. Sex toys that react to music aren’t new, but they tend to be iPod or music player attachments that need to be plugged in.  The premise being you can masturbate to your favourite thumping tunes.  What makes the Nalone Pulse different is that it has a tiny microphone in the base. No cables are needed, it just listens to the ambient noise and reacts if it’s loud enough.

I should point out that there are many other features on the Nalone Pulse. You can use it manually and you can change the pulses and the power of the vibrations.  All of which are ok… but none of them will blow you away.  It’s reasonably rumbly on its lowest setting, but it’s nothing amazing.  For a toy of this size, I actually expected more powerful vibrations. It doesn’t seem to be, for example, as powerful as my We-Vibe Tango, which is about an eighth of its size.

I should also point out that it’s a very nice looking toy.  In spite of being pink, it does look good.  It’s very nicely crafted and the silicone is amazingly smooth.  It’s firm to the touch and feels like silk when you run your fingers over it.  It’s not dissimilar to Nexus silicone, which is the nicest I’ve ever felt.  The packaging is also luxurious (you won’t want to throw it away), the display lights up in a cool blue tone and the USB charging jack at the rear of the toy is easy to use.  All in all it’s a very well made toy.  But, whilst all of that is good, it really was the sound activation that pulled me in.

So what is it actually like to use? Well, if you use the manual mode, it’s average.  Good fun, but nothing new and nothing that will blow you away.  The sound activation mode however, is a different story.  It’s great fun!

Now, I must point out that it’s not at its best when used with music.  Certainly it will pick up the sounds from your hi-fi but, firstly, it needs to be reasonably loud and secondly, you’d need to choose enough songs of a particular type to work well with it.  Songs that have thumping beats and not much background noise.  Songs that have silent parts and crescendos and periods that are just drums.  Or, you can just use it with your (or your partner’s) voice.  This is where it’s really good fun.  It will pick up your voice from a good few inches away and will vibrate depending on what you say and how loudly you say it.  You can adjust the power of the vibrations whilst it’s in the voice activated mode and I found that, although I preferred the slower, rumblier vibrations when using manually, it’s more fun to use with sound activation when the power is set on the higher setting, as it gives the toy more of a range to work with.  So, when inserted, your partner can tease you with their voice! This could be them reading you erotica, telling you what they want to do to you or maybe it could be their screams of passion as they approach orgasm themselves.  Whatever they are, it’s fun.

And that’s not all. You know what works immensely well with the sound activation mode?  Blowing. Simply blow on the microphone if you’re a little bored of reading 50 Shades of Grey to your lover and it will activate the most powerful of the toy’s vibrations.  Tapping lightly also works, but I’ve found that blowing is best.

Nalone-12

So, are there any downsides to the Nalone Pulse?  Not many, that’s for sure.  It’s very well made, it’s waterproof, has a unique selling point in the sound activation mode and is rechargeable.  The only downsides I can think of are the price (it’s a little on the pricier side, although not extortionate compared to some luxury toys) and the vibrations aren’t “blow you away” powerful.  Other than that, it’s great!  Now, there’s obviously a lot of tech inside the Nalone Pulse, which I’m assuming is the reason the vibrations aren’t as powerful as some, so I can’t mark it down very much, but if they found a way to make it rumblier in the future, that would be awesome.  Also, while I’m at it, Nalone, please can you make an anal version with a flare?  That would be great, thanks.

I’d like to end this review by recommending it to some people.  If you’re just looking for a luxury vibrator, this may not be the one for you.  It’s certainly fun, but there’s nothing to really separate it from many of the others.  If you think you’ll become bored of having to talk or blow your partner into ecstasy then maybe think again, too.  But if you fancy a different kind of oral pleasure then go for it!  You’ll have a lot of fun!

Thanks so much to Lovehoney for sending this to me. You can pick one up yourself for £84.99 (with free delivery) by clicking here or on the banner below:
