Review: NS Novelties Renegade Plug IV for Sex Health

I was lucky enough to be sent some products from Chris at Sex Health recently.  One of them was the new Renegade Plug (Number 4) from NS Novelties.

The Renegade IV is a black butt plug crafted from silicone.  This particular plug, the medium, is 4.75″ long (about 4.33″ of insertable toy) and has 1.5″ girth at its widest point or about the same size as the Tantus Ryder, so probably not a plug for an absolute anal beginner but nothing too big to scare you.  It’s the middle of 3 Renegade IV plugs.  The smallest is just over 1″ in girth and the largest is a little over 2″ so if this particular plug isn’t quite what you’re looking for, you might want to look either side.

The Renegade range is crafted from firm but smooth silicone.  Not quite as firm as Lelo, but certainly harder to squeeze than Fun Factory or Tantus.  It also has a silky smooth texture, similar to Nexus, which is a joy to play with.  NS Novelties are so proud of it in fact, that they place a small square on the outside of each toy packaging for you to touch before buying the toy.  They’re right to do so.  It feels fantastic.

Overall the build quality is very good.  There are a couple of issues that I’ll highlight here but nothing major.  Firstly, I noticed a slight plastic smell coming from the toy.  I have a couple of NS Novelties products from this range and they’re both the same.  I’ve tried boiling and intensely cleaning them but there is still a slight odour that won’t go away.  This made me a little sceptical about the claims that these toys were crafted from pure silicone but I have flame tested them and they passed with flying colours*.  I can only assume that the feint odour is a result of either the manufacturing process or from the packaging.

My only other concern is the ring on the underside of the toy.

As you can see from the photo above, there is a keyring attached to a smaller ring that’s in turn attached to the silicone base.  The ring is designed to “make retrieval even easier”. Firstly, you’d have to attach something else to the keyring that’s attached to the smaller ring that’s attached to the base to make it easier to use than the base itself.  Secondly, I broke it out through the silicone with ease…

I don’t normally test toys to breaking point, but this one was a little easier than I’d hoped.  Don’t rely on it.  I simply had to hold the plug in one hand and pull the keyring with the other.  It didn’t put up much of a fight.  Now I know what you’re thinking. “Andy – look at the size of your arms – a mere mortal would surely struggle with breaking it!”. No. I think one of my cats could have probably pulled it apart.

Don’t let either of those things put you off, though.  This really is a great toy.  The shape is great.  It’s easy to insert and doesn’t move around at all.  The base is good and keeps the toy in place whilst the plug to stem size ratio appears perfect.  The most important thing though?  It feels fantastic.  It doesn’t feel like it wants to escape, the base is comfortable and, well, it just feels good to wear.  It’s the kind of plug that you can slip in and wander around for the rest of the day feeling reassured that it will stay in place and just feel good.

If you’re a representative for NS Novelties reading this, you’re a couple of easy to fix things away from the perfect butt plug.  If you’re thinking about buying one, don’t let the niggles put you off.  This is an almost faultless toy at a very reasonable price (£16.64 or £21.14 including shipping). You can buy one from sexhealth.co.uk here.

Thanks again Chris for sending this to me!

*Pure silicone doesn’t catch fire or melt when burnt with a match or flame.  Other inferior materials, TPR etc., will melt or deteriorate.

    I totally agree!
I got mine a week ago after upgrading from a Plug III (it’s a bit big for starters.)
    Produces mind blowing orgasms!
For a sensational effect you can slide a Plug III in next to it. It is stunning!
The solid bases make sure nothing gets lost!
