Sex toy reviews from a discerning chap

Review: Njoy Pure Plug 2.0

Posted January 7, 2015 by

I love writing reviews for toys I’ve bought myself.

I don’t have the opportunity to do it very often. Not because I don’t buy toys. Quite the opposite. I still buy the majority of the toys I own. It’s just that I don’t have that much time to blog or write, so I have to put the toys I bought myself to the back of my list. I have so many I’ve never had the chance to review. Some are now no longer produced. Many have been updated. I doubt I’ll ever manage to write about most of them. But occasionally a toy comes along that I have to just write about, even if it means postponing receiving new toys from stores and companies. This is one such toy.

Writing reviews for toys you’ve bought it awesome. There are no deadlines, for a start. I always negotiate deadlines with companies and always let them know that I have little time to blog and can never produce articles quickly. It’s also because I like to take my time with the writing and the photos. I could probably churn out lots more reviews if I wasn’t fussy about the content, but content is everything. I’d rather review infrequently but of a good quality. I never wanted to be the biggest or most prolific sex toy reviewer. Just the best.

So no deadlines for this review. Awesome. I can write when I like. There are also no requirements. I can link to whoever I like and whoever offers the best deal at the moment. I also don’t have to write the toy’s full name or mention particular keywords when I link. Suffice it to say that reviews for toys bought myself are my favourite!

So, onto the review…

I have a soft spot for my first Pure Plug as it was the first toy I ever received from a company in exchange for a review. I remember Alice from Lovehoney contacting me and asking if I’d want one and replying very enthusiastically. So it’s fair to say I had an inkling I’d like this newer, bigger version.

I’ve had this plug a while now. I bought it with the proceeds of my second “Lovehoney Model of the Month” win. Well, with most of the proceeds. I won £100 and the Pure Plug 2.0 is £109.99, but it was money well spent, I can tell you. I’d have bought it anyway, sooner or later. It was in the same category as the Pure Wand, the “Will hold out for a while in case someone sends me one” category. I wanted a Pure Wand for ages, but sadly nobody needed one reviewing so (as you can see from the photo below) I ended up buying one myself. Hopefully I’ll be able to review it at some point as well, but it’s at the back of the list (see above)…

For those of you that aren’t aware of njoy toys, let me iterate a few words about them. They were formed in 2005 with the aim of producing the highest quality toys at the cheapest prices possible. All their toys are made from 316 grade stainless steel, which is about as good as it gets. The Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia? Their exterior is crafted from 316 steel. 316 is a bit more pricey than other, cheaper grades, but it’s far more resilient to corrosion and acid. It’s often referred to as ‘Marine Grade’ as it’s so resistant to chloride corrosion. It’s also often referred to as ‘Surgical Steel’. Njoy also take pride in their designs. They craft toys that are not only designed to feel amazing, but toys you want to show off. I described my first Pure Plug as something “you just want to display on your coffee table for others to admire” and, for me, that’s true of all their products. Finally, they also try to be as customer friendly as possible and pride themselves on responding to any queries or issues as quickly as possible.

So, to the toy itself. The Pure Plug 2.0 was created due to feedback from users of the initial Pure Plug range. Users loved them, but wanted more. So version 2.0 was born, a bigger, heavier version of the Pure Plug. Of the initial range, the biggest was 1.5″ (38mm) wide, 2.75″ (70mm) long and weighed in at 11oz (310g). The 2.0 is 2″ (51mm) wide, 3.5″ (89mm) long and weighs a pleasurable 1.5lb (600g). A significant increase everywhere, by all accounts.  Other than the indentations on the head, presumably as it was just that bit too heavy without them, the design is the same as the original, just bigger. Which, from my point of view is a good thing, as I loved my first Pure Plug.

Now what I must say about all Pure Plugs is that they are a little bit special. They’re slightly more niche than other plugs. I don’t want that to sound like they’re overly specialist, but they’re not quite the ‘plug for every occasion’ like the Tantus Ryder. They’re heavier than most plugs, so you feel them inside you more. Then there’s the handle. The handle sticks out a little bit so, if you’re likely to sit down hard on, say, a glass chair, then you may make an unwanted ‘clang’. Other than that though, you can pretty much wear it whenever you like. Except through a metal detector, obviously. But other than that, you’re basically fine. I even go running in mine. Which, incidentally, is something I never thought would be possible. I remember loving my Sex and Metal Jewel Butt Plug (and I still do), but it slips out far too easily to go running in. Even walking fast would be a little risky with that one, but that’s not the case with the Pure Plug. It fits snugly inside and stays put. It doesn’t even suffer from the dreaded ‘plug twist’, which is my personal bugbear with many butt plugs. So other than sitting (and airport security), everything else is risk free, and you can wear it whenever & wherever you like.

Now wearing the 2.0, that’s an absolute pleasure. There are two ways to wear it: pointing to the front and pointing to the back. I love to the front as it presses a little on my prostate, but I can wear it to the back for longer (only because the prostate stimulation can be a little distracting if I’m trying to concentrate). Both ways feel amazing though and I usually find myself swapping from one to the other, over and over. The handle, although not ideal for certain chairs, is great for manipulation. Whether by yourself or a partner, it’s easy to add or subtract a little pressure during sex or play. It’s not a thruster at all, of course. Like all good plugs, it’s designed to stay in. But a little movement is possible and, indeed, I’d encourage it. Lube wise, it is of course absolutely necessary, but you don’t need anywhere near as much as you would on a silicone toy. This one is so smooth you don’t need that much at all. You can also pick any lube you like (within reason). My favourite is Sliquid Sassy.

It’s also exceptional at temperature play. My first Pure Plug was great. This one, due to the amount of extra steel, is amazing. You can warm it up in hot water or (my favourite) cool it down in your fridge. Either way, the sensation is fantastic. Now I’m sure none of you would ever do such a thing, but please don’t overheat or overchill one. You won’t do the toy any harm, of course, but you might injure yourself, which is far worse. For the avoidance of doubt (and the Accident & Emergency department) steer clear of boiling water and the freezer.

I’ve had this plug for a few months now and it’s been my favourite since I bought it. I love everything about it. The packaging is amazing (the same as all njoy products, in that exquisite purple material), the build quality is second to none and the design is perfect. It feels amazing to I enjoy wearing it during both everyday life and during play. Now, it is a bit on the large side. At 2″, it’s certainly not for beginners, but it’s an amazing plug and if you’re worried that it’ll be too large for you then there are three other sizes to choose from (with the smallest starting from 1″ wide).

As a final note, please just look at it. I know lots of you come to this blog for the photos more than the prose, but, with this review in particular, please stay a little longer than you might and just look at the shots of the 2.0. I actually struggled with photos for this. Not because it’s hard to shoot, other than the reflections, it’s hard to make any njoy toy not look good…but they’re still better in real life. No matter how shiny or enticing I make it look from these photos, it’s not a patch on what it looks like in real life. They’re worth every penny.

You can pick them up from most sex toy stores, but I bought mine from Lovehoney for £109.99. If you click the banner below, you can do the same. Njoy!

It looks so huge next to the small…and next to the Pure Wand, but that’s probably because of the distance..but…woah. BIG! Now I want to get that small!

Hi Reenie. I bought the Pure Plug Small (1″), Pure Plug Medium (1.25″), and Pure Plug Large (1.5″) at the same time. I tried the Small and felt nothing, so I was seriously disappointed. I tried the Medium and although it didn’t feel bad, it didn’t feel great either. With the Large, it took me about three weeks of trying, just to get it inserted (which was a huge buzz when it popped through). I knew then that the Pure Plug 2.0 was not going to be an imminent purchase.

If your plans are to use it anally as well, I would suggest you think long and hard about getting the Small, unless you’re new to anal play, as I think it’s really too small and seeing as they aren’t exactly cheap, it would be better for you to spend the few extra dollars and get either the Medium or Large.

      Hey Reenie!

The small is quite tiny, but it’s still enjoyable. I have one and still use it occasionally if I don’t want anything too large distracting me.

The shape of every Pure Plug is great, so all you need to do is pick the size nearest to what you want. If you have a favourite butt plug then maybe choose one closest to that? I know you won’t be disappointed with any of them, though 🙂

Excellent review Andy. Lots of detail which covers just about everything relating to this toy.

I agree wholeheartedly about how much better the njoy toys are in real life compared to the photographs on any site, even njoy’s. The finish on them is spectacular. The only other toy I’ve seen that comes close to having as good a finish on it is the Aneros Tempo.

I too had reason to contact njoy after purchasing my toys, and they responded quickly and were very honest and forthcoming with their answers.

The thing I like the most about my Pure Plug Large is the weight. I’ve considered getting the Pure Plug 2.0 just because it’s almost twice as heavy. However, I am nowhere near being able to make use of it, and don’t know if I ever will be. Kudos to you for being able to handle it.

When (If) you get around to reviewing your Pure Wand (yes, yes, you said it’s at the ‘back of the list’), I expect that’s the only time this review will be in danger of being surpassed.

Awesome job. Well done, and thanks.

      Thanks Steven!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the review.

You’re right, the 2.0 is pretty hefty. The weight is awesome, though. It’s worth working up to.

I’ll let you know as soon as the Pure Wand review is up!

I got the large yesterday and I have only used toys analy a handful of times and had a bit of trouble getting it in but I grabbed a smaller plug to just get the inner sphincter opened up then worked the njoy large plug in and it certainly went in with a bang haha! I had to lay there for a short while and let the muscles relax and the cool feeling of the steel inside.

I felt comfortable all evening with it in and I am already keen as mustard for the 2.0 even tho I have only just started on this journey of anal discovery 🙂

Just not sure how long before I will be able to accomodate this big 600g metal slug in my butt!

    Thanks for the review!
